Alstonefield walk map

26. Alstonefield 5th October 2013

Parked at Milldale carpark, I remember our boots hadn’t dried out from the last walk but there wasn’t much we could do about it and set off down to Milldale then left along the road which ran beside the river Dove to the Pinch bridge. Over the bridge and on the left is a path which after a little way down has a great view of Shining Tor. Follow the river path to Gypsy Bank and the stepping stones, left over the bridge and up, up, up the very steep bank. Over the fields now to Alstonefield and a nice pint and a sherry at the George which was full of walkers( Spell checker! ) Heading west and crossing the junction we picked up a path across the fields towards Hope Green Farm . Lying in the field was a small wooden stand with pots of jam and chutneys sadly strewn on the grass. After righting the stand and setting all the prize winning pots of produce back into place we bought a couple of pots, placing the cash in the box for payments although there was a card reader. Very quaint. On again to the Watts Russell public house, friendly Landlady and pint of some very strong flowery ale ( I’ll have to go back to find out what it was sometime). Then walked nay skipped along sunny bank (even though it was raining!) and back to the car.
