77. Cheddleton peak district walk

77. Cheddleton. 29th September 2014.

From the Rspb Nature Reserve Information Centre we headed south down the tree lined path passing Sharpcliffe Hall then west through Hall Farm then crossing Combes Brook on the Staffordshire Moorlands Walk. Passing upper Fennyhill Farm, crossing over a lane past Upper House Farm then to Cheddleton Station passing a few pigs. Over the rail crossing bridge and a welcome drink at the Boat Inn. Following the canal north then winding round then up onto the A520 heading south to The Red Lion. Unusually Julie came to the bar with me this time and tried to help me choose a tipple knowing I go for interestingly named strong ales. Should have known really Cheddar Gold was a cider but it was an enjoyable refreshing change and at 7percent it does the job. Back down the road, over the canal turning right into station road passing a business park then over the rail line then taking a path on the left northeast keeping the large industrial building to our right. Onto Cheddleton Heath Road turning right then taking Basford Road north a short way then taking a path on the left through the wood to get onto the main road . We were looking for The Travellers Rest but it was shut. boo! So we went back up the road taking a right down Basford Road taking a path on the left which runs behind the industrial park. Heading south east across Twinney Lane continuing south east onto a lane by a farm then east along the road a bit taking a path on the right to pick up the Staffordshire Moorlands Walks heading northeast back to the visitors centre.
