7. Wetton Mill Thors cave walk 16th March

Parking at Wetton Mill car park on Wetton road then from the ford junction heading southwest over the small footbridge on then left and up onto the tops past the farms and onto the lane still south west into Grindon. We were following a walk from a twenty year old book and were looking forward to some refreshment in the Cavalier pub. We walked all the way round the village but no pub. Asking a couple in their garden they informed us that the pub had closed in 2009. Bugger!... I wasn’t laughing! Taking the path north then northwest out of Grindon along Ladyside wood where we had our lunch. Continuing through the wood and meeting up with the manifold way heading north along the river and taking a steep path up the hill to Thors cave. Well worth the hike! Back Down the hill and continue along the trail to Wetton Mill. I remember going here as a small child with my parents. Great walk, quite testing in parts, steep climb up to the cave itself and slippy slidy on the way down (in march anyway!)
