peak district walks

87. Malcoff, South Head peak district walk

87. Malcoff, South Head 25th November 2014.

Parking on a grass verge near Malcoff Farm we headed north east between the houses, bit tricky to find as there wasn’t a footpath sign but not deterred or detoured we found a way. Heading north east then left on the trail up to South Head taking in fabulous views then taking a path south west down to the Lamb Inn for drinks then crossing over the A624 heading west along a path down to the farm then south then east again just below another farm then after a play on a rope swing over the river we headed up to Maynestone Road turning left into Chinley. Left over the railway line and left down the B6062 past New Smithy, under the viaducts taking the road to the left at Chapel Milton which goes under the bypass then left on the main road to The Fallow Deer for drinks by the cosy fire. Back down the road taking a left down Bowden Lane through the industrial estate past a couple of houses on the right then taking a path on the left running behind the factory. The path took us across the bypass and by the side of Bowden Hall where we ate our sandwiches on a wet log. Out onto the lane turning left then taking a path on the right through the trees then over a wall and north west then onto the lane at The Wash turning right just before the bridge following the river to the lane north east and up to the car. Somewhere during this walk we had clocked up 500 miles since starting our walks in Feb 2013.
